I used to leave all technology decisions to ex:blush: and now feel confused by lots of things that I need to cope with alone.
My lap top is literally falling to pieces and needs replacing and I''m not sure what to buy.Would another lap top be best or a Tablet? I''ve also seen a small laptop with detachable screen which I think can be used in the same way as a Tablet if needed.

I mainly use my present Lap top to Email,Google for information,Buy things and come on the Forum.Does anyone have words of wisdom to help me please?

I wouldn''t get a tablet if you type a lot. Even those with a detachable keyboard aren''t that great for typing anything long. As far as I know you can''t use the wikivorce chatroom with a tablet too.

Personally I think that tablets are great to have in addition to a main computer, but not to use instead of a main computer. Things like transferring files can be a pain in the bum with tablets, as can printing etc.

If you''re convinced on a tablet then I would look at something like a Samsung Galaxy, or a Nexus. I''ve heard that the new Tesco tablet is pretty good but last time I checked they were out of stock everywhere in the country and weren''t expecting any more stock any time soon.

I would buy a laptop. I have a laptop and tablet and to be honest, I hardly use the tablet these days.

A tablet is more for fun. As u6 says great if you already have a pc. And I certainly can''t get into chat on mine.

It really depends on what you use the laptop or tablet for and where you want to use it. If you do a lot of typing, DTP etc or are a serious gamer then you will almost certainly find a laptop more useful. On the other hand if you only send the occasional short email , browse and shop away from home a tablet may suffice and is easier to carry about. Personally I find a tablet useful for reading but almost everything else I do on my laptop.

My laptop recently died and I have been lost without it, even though I was lent my daughters ipad.

If you are going to send legal/business letters and want to save received items on your hard drive, go for a laptop. That "cloud" is ok but there is a limit to storage and if not tech savy, difficult to find things.

I personally prefare a keyboard rather than touch screen when typing.

Windows 7 laptops are still available if your concerned about win 8 problems.
