I would have to come down as a fan of the laptop, although I have and use tablet PCs to. It really depends what you want to pay.
Laptops like the Dell XPS are a bit of a crossover in that the screen can separate from the keyboard. The Surface RT is another option, it does have a couple of keyboard options (and a USB socket) and the RT version does come with Microsoft Office. As with all tablets storage is a premium and storing data in ''the cloud'' does tend to become a necessity.

A lot depends on the depth of your pocket...but I''d go for a reasonable laptop over a tablet.

Thanks all.I really appreciate your advice.I have decided that a Lap Top sounds best for me.I think that it probably makes sense to wait until after Christmas in hope of getting a better deal.
