What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I''ve just had a letter from the court saying that the decree will be read in court on 3rd April. Does this mean 6 weeks and 1 day from then I can apply for the Absolute? :)

Brilliant, thank you.

The letter says "The court certifies that the Petitioner has sufficiently proved the contents of the Petition and is entitled to a decree of divorce on the grounds that the marriage has irretrievably broken down, the facts found proved being the Respondent''s unreasonable behaviour."

So fingers crossed it''s going ahead!

Looks like it will :)

I make it 16th May as the first day you can apply for your Decree Absolute.

I worked it out the same, shame, I''ll be away on holiday on the 16th, it''ll have to wait till I get back. Coincidentally, that''s the anniversary of our separation!

Quick question, how long after submitting your affidavit did you get your letter about the Nisi? I am awaiting my Nisi date at the moment.
