What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am currently going through a seperation after 15 years, of which the last 11 were married. I have two children (7 & 12). My wife is now telling me that she will get 60% of everything we own and i will have to pay her maintenance aswell. I am aware of the maintenance requirement for my kids but does she really get 60% of everything else?

It''s not that straightforward, the split of finances is governed by S25 matrimonial clauses which can be read here

It''s needs based and will depend on the assets available.
