What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

:)Hi everyone , went to the 2nd hearing for the FDR yesterday . Got there 9am out at 12.50 .Went in and out the court 3 times. Finally sorted . I have to get a charge against our house to make sure I get the rest of my money in 2 years. It was suggested in and round about way by the judge . She said she couldnt advise me ,but said to his solicitor ,why hasnt a charge been suggested against the property to provide security for me that I get the rest in 2 years. So its finally over , apart from me getting the Decree Absolute myself . I have to go to a solicitor to register the charge against the property . Does anyone have any idea , how much this might cost. Teresa

Hi, you can do this yourself. Complete UN1 form against the property which is a charge showing you have an interest on the property. There is no charge for you to put in an application it’s free. You can find all the details on Land registry website. If its home rights it a HR1. Double check the website which one suits you best.
If your solicitor offer to complete this form they will charge around £150.00, but it takes 5mins to complete and its free
Hope this helps
