What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have received a certificate of entitlement to a decree, I am the Respondant, do I need to do anything, the part that troubles me is that it states that I am responsible for the costs of both sides, do I need to attend the court hearing in order to clarify my situation. My partner is going to buy me out, but as yet, I have not had an offer, can anyone offer any advice.

The "costs" are just for the actual divorce and the financial settlement is dealt with separately. In financial proceedings each party pays their own costs.
