What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

myself and my wife are getting divorced, she is intent on putting all the corrispondance through the solicitor, can i insist any offers for the equity be put directly to me rather than solicitors sending letters to each other. my solicitor has been poor to be honest and gave me the impression divorce costs would be shared which wasnt the case.

Yes you can request that all letters and other communication is sent direct to you. You can also respond to these yourself, and retain your current sols for advice and for as & when you need him.

Just send the other side a letter (keep it business-like).

How is she paying for the solicitor? Is it from her personal savings or a joint account?

she has been awarded all costs for the divorce but she will fight like hell for the equity, i dont want more solicitors bills just to reject silly offers etc. she will pay future costs from her own saves as joint account is closed down, can she try to make me pay these costs as well or not ?

She is responsible for funding her own legal costs.
