What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

The costs award is only the costs for the divorce itself. It does not cover the costs associated with the financial side of the divorce.

Insisting that all correspondence goes through solicitors is one of the worst mistakes anyone can make. It is a 1-way ticket to a huge bill. Mostly it is people on legal aid who say this kind of thing.

If your costs are getting too high you should talk to your solicitor. If you want to do the legwork yourself then you can retain them on an "advice only" basis. If you want to do this then you should talk to your solicitor, don''t simply write to your ex and tell her to write to you instead.
