What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

You can ask as many questions as you like, no one minds.

The cost of buying a house goes in capital needs, as would a car or other one off big expenses.

Costs of sale of property goes in the other box, often 5% of the value will suffice.

ok - another question

Income needs - 3.1 my income needs are going to change because ....

how do you word this. i have two growing children - they dont get cheeper! My car was just written off so I may have a loan to pay for a new one (no income to actually do that myself though)IF I have to raise a mortgage or move then obviously there would be a cost there ...

Any advice?

I have worked on producing a spread sheet which shows my current expenditure all broken down for me and the kids. for boxes 3.1.1 an 3.1.2

Confused, judges like to see nice plain English from LIP`s, the biggest mistake many make is to try and write like solicitors, it confuses the judge as they often use terms they really don`t understand.

If you need a new car that goes in the capital needs box.

Don`t state the obvious, the judge will be only to well aware kids are expensive, the chances are s/he will have a few of their own.

I know its stressful but we are here to help with questions so let wiki take some of the burden from you.

You need to send 12 months bank statements and the same for credit cards, so its 12 months statements for each card, even if the balance is nowt.

Just to add I was missing a few bits of info on exchange date. I just wrote this on the form E "being obtained - to follow".

Neither me or my ex declared credit cards as there was no credit card debt as they were paid off each month. Although if there is debt, 12 months statements should be produced.
