What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi all,

Had an appointment with my solicitor last wednesday and instructed him to begin the divorce. He said he was going to write to stbxh to agree grounds before he did anything ''official''. Is it standard practice for the solicitor to send me a copy of any letters he sent? Things between the stbxh are particularly strained after issues surrounding contact last week and him publicly telling me to ''go f****** die'' on fb so i''m more than a little concerned about how he may react to the solicitors letter. I was hoping i would receive a copy too so i could at least be aware of when he receives it. Waiting to hear anything is driving me crazy!!!

Yes it is normal for a solicitor to send a draft Petition to the respondent before sending it to court.

You can insist that he sends a copy of everything to you also if you want, but it will obviously cause your bills will be higher. A certain level of trust is required between solicitor and client.

Block him on facebook, you don''t have to put up with that kind of thing.
