What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi all,
Quick question really.
I''ve been separated just a couple of months - staying at parents house for now.
Wife is in MH with 2 children and now wants divorce. We plan equal residence of kids once I find a place. I feel wife is in rush to divorce before we both experience what life will be like sharing the kids. I don''t want divorce at this time as I think it is too soon. I am realistic about chances of saving the marriage, but time can be a healer. Can I oppose the divorce on time alone - I heard you have to be separated 12 months first. By the way no violence, adultery, cruelty etc.

You heard wrong. If your wife wants a divorce then she can get one, and (if she does it right) there is nothing you can do about it.

The only rule is that you have to be married 12 months before you can get a divorce.
