What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Usually neither of you attend. If you do attend I think you can get a copy of the Absolute that day.

Hope it goes well and you get closure on something that has been going on for so long.

I attended court and she didn''t. I sat with the district judge for 5 minutes and confirmed we hadn''t lived together since Decree Nisi and didn''t have any further children together. I stated that I didn''t know why as the Petitioner, she hadn''t applied for Absolute - with that, the DJ said fine and granted the Decree Absolute. Its in the post!! Thanks for all advice and answers to my questions.
