What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi

Can anyone tell me if my wife is entitled to half my inheritance. My dad dies 18 months ago and left me a fair amount of money and with more to come from sale of property.

If i were to divorce would my wife be entitled to half of everything. My dad left it to me and then if i had died my kids. No mention of her.

Please advise.

Thanks

There is no automatic entitlement but an inheritance is a resource available to you, so whether she gets some of it will depend on all the other factors involved. I have to say, it''s quite common for spouses to get effectively at least part of an inheritance. Sorry.
