What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Just to add what really should happen is the solicitor sends you a draft copy of the divorce application before sending it to court the aim of this is to prevent problems agreeing the divorce application and who pays the costs, this is the resolution recommendation, its not a rule though just a recommendation.

If your ex is publicly funded the costs will be much less than a fee earning solicitor usually about half so around £600, rather than go to court its best to try and agree something, maybe offer half.

If you have no money and can show you have none the judge wont order blood from a stone especially as she is not paying a penny for her solicitor.
