What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I saw this article on the BBC online today: www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18695889

And wondered what everyone else thought? When did you take your wedding ring off?

I took mine off and gave it back as he was packing his bags to leave. I remember talking to my friend about a month later and she had said ''you''ve taken your ring off? Is it that serious?'' and thinking, yes it is serious! He has left me!!

I also know of a friend of a friend who was jilted at the altar who still wears her engagement ring albeit on the other hand. I''ve kept both my rings but i dont plan on wearing them every again!

I removed mine shortly after he left (partly because I had gotten so fat that it was digging in, but also because I simply didn''t want to wear it as I no longer felt "married").

My ex-husband removed his the day after our wedding, I found it while sorting out his stuff after he left, so placed it carefully, along with the wedding video in a box with his other bits and bobs.

I began this whole nightmare with the conviction that it would stay on for so long as I was married -until the divorce.

As time has passed I feel less obliged to wear it and less attached to wear it. It has morphed from a symbol of love and committment to a symbol of broken promises and a truck load of pain :o(

Can you tell I''m wrapped in the dank duvet of doom and gloom today?

Mine came off the day I kicked her out, and went to an online gold retailer soon after.

Mine came off when he was loading his car,
but hated it not there, even had indentation for weeks after, but maybe thatwas something to do with the satan I married!!!

Like i said hated not having a ring on after wearing one for so long, upset so much by not seeing it there,so daughters went and bought a gold criss/cross band set with stones!!!
The differance with this ring,it was given with love and sincerity and I will always wear it, with pride.
Loved what you done Cookie!!!!
but when i leave this earth daughters can decide then!!

luv and cwtchs ............Afon

I took mine off the minute I knew it was all over, i.e. when I confronted him with what I knew - he had already taken his off. Was sad to take it off as my Dad made it. I''m keeping me eye on gold prices and will be scrapping it shortly to go towards paying for my son''s wedding rings.
