What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have a pretty straightforward question I would appreciate advice on.

My original marriage certificate is not in English but I want to divorce in England.
If I get it translated and the translation certified by a notary public in the foreign country in the EU(the same country it was issued) would it be accepted by the court in England for the divorce purposes?

Thank you.

A number of consulates have resident notaries who can perform notarisation and translation - if you are UK based this may be a cheaper/faster option.

NotaryPublic, thank you.
It is just that I am abroad right now and I thought I could have one thing sorted and out of the way before I return home.
