What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi there, i will receive my Decree Absolute several weeks prior to financial matters being heard in court. I was wondering if my ex-husband remarries before the court hearing if his new wife and her child will be taken into account when trying to agree a settlement? Many thanks for your help.

It''s not that easy to answer, the probability is it will not effect proceedings, his responsibility will remain for the most part with his first family, so what he choses to do post divorce will have little if any bearing on your financial proceedings.
