What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Mine took 18 days from the application & the solicitor sent me the original with instructions to keep it safe as I would need it to get re-married!
Its in a safe place, as for the re-married bit..... not a chance! :)

Best of luck with your freedom.

I was LIP throughout and went to the court offices this morning with my application form - they issued me with my papers there and then, I was able to wait for them. I guess it depends on the individual court and their workload, but it doesn''t take ''too long'' (piece of string.....).

I asked for two sealed copies right away as I will have to send a copy off to the DVLA, bank etc. and don''t want to be in a position to have to go back and get another copy when the first one gets ''lost in the post''. Didn''t cost me more as it went under the original application.
