What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Errr your paying a fee earning solicitor and six months in your still right at the beginning?.

Divorce is very stressful which is why you pay a solicitor to take the burden and progress the matter, if they don`t what are you paying for?, if you have money to burn i have a new roof to pay for, *takes cap off and presents it with a hopeful expression*.

And now for my top two responses when i call solicitors.

S/he is in court today ill take a message.

S/he is on annual leave ill take a message.

There are around 100,000 solicitors and only a small number are advocates who work in court, strange that so many seem to be in court so often, or is it just me.

Annual leave, everyone needs a holiday but some solicitors seem to have errr lets say about 25 weeks per year.

Or do secretaries tell the odd porky perhaps?.

The problem is you still right at the beginning, all your solicitor has done is fill in a D8 form, 15 minutes tops.
