What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have just been told by my solicitor, some 9 months after i first visited her that i do not qualify for legal aid. I was kicked out by my husband and left homeless and with no money. I went to find a solicitor who stated that i was able to get legal aid. I have now been divorced by my husband and upon hearing this news regarding legal aid. My ex husband is keen to sort out a financial settlement as soon as possible but i now cant fund my defence. can i stop at this point until i can fund myself.

Is your husband legally represented? How is he funding things, where are you living, how long was the marriage, what are your earnings and his? Will your previous solicitor give you your file or is it being withheld?
