What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi guys. just recieved a divorce petition. Some things i dont understand..... she wants me the respondent to pay the court costs. how can i do that when i havnt got a penny to my name. no savings at all. i just get by. just about. any help on that would be great. ............... and in the financial section it says......the Petitioner may be granted the following....an order for maintenance pending suit/ outcome. 2. a periodical payments order. 3. secured provision order. 4. lump sum order. 5.property adjustment .6. pension sharing attatchment order.......... what does all that mean. i havnt got any money..... no pension apart from a state pension. Does this mean she might get all of the above if she makes an application for all that? She also has the date wrong when we seperated, shes got june 07. it was actualy sept 07. so its still 5 years i have been seperated..... the letter from her solicitor on the front says....theres no financial ties between us and the ex will be drafting a Clean Break Consent Order to dismiss all claims againsr one another....yet the financial section confuses me. even though we split in sept 07 i lived/ slept in the conservatory untill april 08. i still payed the mortgage and maintenance( she would us my boy if i didnt pay maintenance) and got into alot of debt. I signed over the house to her and her mum when i left in april 08. she gave me sum money and i left and paid my debts. so divorce is good... but how do i pay for it if i havnt got any money. she knows im skint but still wants me to pay. im worried coz i cant pay and dont want to get in debt again. help please. im worried sick. thanks guys. chats.

Don''t worry,

It''s standard to tick the boxes in sect ion ten, it doesn''t mean she is asking for any of it.

Contact her solicitor and confirm they will not ask for divorce costs if you sign the application.
