What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I thought my situation was bad enough but reading some of the posts on here it appears that divorce is an Absolute nightmare for everyone!!
It appears that solicitors and courts make everything worse rather than better, they complicate matters and nothing is ever a yes or no.
I know its hard when emotions are involved but for me that was the purpose of going to a solicitor and in fairness he has been brilliant, predicating what my stbex will do before its done. Some of the things that are allowed to happen just defy common sense. When children are involved why do things take so long.... Sorry just having at rant at what seems like a system where no one ends up happy, even when its all over.

Yep that about sums it up.

No disrespect to anyone in the legal profession on here but my experiences of solicitors, barristers and especially judges throughout my journey has been awful.

And from reading the experiences on here I am just SO thankful that me and the woman I had the terrible misfortune to marry had no kids together....
