What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I've been separated since 2015, when my husband moved to the UAE. I started divorce proceedings in 2018. Payments towards the children and mortgage stopped a couple of years ago. We had the second court hearing in December, following which a settlement was agreed in principle, but he did not sign it (and then he returned to the UAE). There have been several attempts to contact him since then, and another offer has been put forward. The 3rd and final hearing is due in 2 weeks time, but has been replaced with a 'Mention' hearing instead - but my husband is not responding to anything at all, and his own solicitor has asked to be removed from the court record. So what is going on? What are the options if he just does not engage? How do I divorce him?!
