What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi there. I'm trying to negotiate pension transfer values etc for myself, and have come across pension offsetting in an old report i found. Is there a standard way to reduce the value of a pension income in exchange for a cash transfer?
For instance the report I've seen says a 6.4% reduction in pension share for every £10000. Seems to be a totally made-up number !
Please help
Thanks

There isn't a standard table to use. A lot would depend on the age of the parties.

Someone of 55 could access the pension immediately.

Someone of 25 would be waiting 32+ years before they could do anything with it.

Also depends on attitude to pensions. Someone not interested in sharing a pension may accept less liquid assets per £ of pension compared to someone that is happy to have the pension.
