What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am petitioner in a divorce in the UK, we have not yet received Decree Nisi.
I will be relocating out of the UK for work reasons.

Would this have any adverse impact on divorce or financial settlement? Will my spouses claim on the property be strengthened because of this if I am not staying there?

This is a property in joint names and joint mortgage but paid solely by me since separation.

Thanks

Is the relocation permanent? If it is then your needs would be based on cost of living in your new location. If it is not , it would be reasonable for you to have the opportunity to purchase a property in the UK for you to live in at some point in the future. You may want to defer sale of the existing property if she wants/needs to live there. This would mean it is sold and you get your percentage share at an agreed point. You would have to see if she could afford to pay the costs of staying there.
