What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi all. I'm so pleased to fin£ this site. I am stuck on what to do next.
I left my stbxh over seven months ago . He didn't stop me and said he would give me four grand in increments. So far I e had three and a half , also he said there's no point divorcing as it's a pain, he said he would pay for a Clean Break order in the future.
I was very depressed wh3n I left , he controlled all finances . I only worked as part time cle@ner and have health issues . We both have no debts , no property etc.no children . I applied for divorce a few weeks ago and he did not contest it . I am on UC and have less than £3000 so I didn't have to pay. I asked a makensie friend what I shud do next and she said ask for another three grand and leave it at that. It just seems unfair as I have no idea of his finances, he has no pension. We are in our late fifties. Mckenzie friend said the judge would agree on the three grand on top of the interim payments as we both have limited income , his the hell would she know that ! . I'm just sick to the teeth of being controlled on what I'm worth! I'm on UC but have some savings available for legal help Mainly forms etc. Do you think I should take the advice and ask for another three grand ? He won't be happy,. Any advice please xxxx

You really need financial disclosure before you can decide what an appropriate settlement would be.

It may be worth booking a one hour consultation with one of our divorce consultants to see what your options might be and get help to sort out disclosure.

Thank you so much. I’m very new to this and with so many people telling me different things I don’t know what to do. I will take your advice when I figure it out 😄 Haven’t really looked around this site yet. Jan x
