What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I, as respondent, have received the Decree Nisi after my husband paid for a fixed fee divorce. His solicitor has asked to see him next week to sort out a Consent Order. As we have verbally agreed to split everything 50/50, proceeds from house sale, cars, etc sadly no real savings. I think it’s pretty straightforward as we are both receiving state pensions now, and my husband is the only one with a private pension which he will share. Do I need to do anything or does his solicitor contact me with what has been discussed, or do I need to fill in any forms. Thanks in advance
