What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

My ex has asked for a copy of the marriage certificate. I'm pretty confident that when I applied for divorce I gave it to my solicitor and I never saw it again. Is this normal? I have the Decree Absolute and been fully divorced for a year now (thank god!) should I have the marriage certificate, and will I ever need it in the future?

You don't get the marriage certificate back which is why some people get a copy for divorce purposes and keep the original.

Copies of certificates for UK marriages can be easily obtained should you want one. I cannot see why you might as the marriage is over. It is the Decree Absolute you may need in future so keep track of that ?!
