What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

My brother and I bought a house as an investment. However, only my name is on the deeds. I have proof that half of the money came from my brother's bank account to purchase the property.
Can my wife take a share of his house in the divorce?

The short answer is 'no'.

However you are on the back foot as you will have to prove that you've account is correct. The first question that will need to be answered is why is the property in your sole name?

It was a spare of the moment, auction property and my brother had no ID, ie. Driving licence or passport.
