What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am waiting until April when the no fault divorce comes in and am considering starting my divorce without a solicitor as I do not need one to fill in the paperwork and it will save some money.
Question, if I do this and later I need a solicitor will this be a problem for me as I did not start with one ?

You don't need a solicitor and the online portal is fairly self-explanatory.

When the new procedure arrives there will be teething problems - personally I would leave it for a couple of months for it to bed in and iron out the kinks.
