What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Dear wikivorcers

I am currently in the USA and those of you who know me well, are aware that I am not here on holiday. My wife, who is American, moved back to the USA five years ago and since then I have been long distance commuting to see her.

She is now terminally ill and could die at any time, and to be honest it would be a mercy if she does. I have known this was coming for a long time and now the time for her has arrived.

I have my computer but I don''t really feel like posting just now. I''m here for 3 weeks, and there will be much to do. I can assure everyone I personally,am all right, but I want to get the funeral out of the way before I feel able to resume.
