I discovered recently that if i googled my full real name, it showed the results of all my blogs and my wiki user name.....not good especially if you dont want your ex to find you.
I have now changed my real name in my profile settings, didnt really want to do this because I dont want people and Ian to think Im a fraudster but i will mail him and let him know and that for his records he can have my real name, just dont want to be on google. I have also altered my wiki name very slightly and lol no one noticed in chat yesterday.
If I now google may real name now it only shows my face book account....im a very happy bunny now.
We have had several peeps say this before and I have investigated every case.
Your real name (first name and surname that you enter during registration) is never published on any web page in wiki and therefore is not available to google.
UNLESS you use your real name (as some people do) to sign off in their blogs or on a forum post.
Data privacy is something we must and do take very seriously - so if anyone does think that their real name is in google from wiki then feel free to let me know. But so far I have not found a single verified example.
If you want to be extra safe then feel free to update your details and change your real name in your wiki profile to 'mickey' or 'minnie mouse' - that is fine by us.
How does that work? I have put names into goggle(ok I admit it,it was his s....t) and nothing came up but a few famous people with the same name. Have just put mine in and again only famous or dead people with the same name.
I remember same thing happened to me Saffy. I think google does some sort of sweep of the net every so often and stores it in cache for a short period. I can't remember what I changed in my profile but that sorted it out.
I dug into this a little and the only possible way I could see this happening was via the tags (hidden labels) attached to a blog image.
I have changed these tags to keep them totally hidden from google. It will take a few days for this change to take effect in google. But it should solve the issue for the couple of peeps that had this happen.
I suggest that anyone who wants to be 100% sure their name cannot possibly ever appear in google should amend their real name in their profile:...
thinking about it I think I googled my username which is my nickname, not bats. I then realised pretty quick I should change my username if for no other reason than my ex coming across the site. It was stupid of me to use my nickname!
Hi, This is interesting reading, just googled mine. There were 13k results so not much chance of ex coming across mine!
However, I know that my ex uses this site and one thing struck me.
His username is always on the top and he's never used his real name in any blog. But one of the replies used his NAME, so either they can sometimes appear on profile, or my best guess is that he pm'd them and gave his real name on that, hence the reply using his name rather than username.
Don't know, not going to worry too much, but he gave me more ammo. lol
