Holidays for singletons was created by butterfly crossing
Hi all

I was going to ask if anyone can recommend places in this country and abroad for singles to go on holiday, which I would still like to know.

Then I thought I wonder how many people on here would like to arrange to go on holiday with other people from the site, knowing we are all single might make it easier.

I just wondered what people thought of the idea that maybe in the future some of us arranged to go on holiday in the UK to start with who would be interested.

I know there are holidays for single parents, but what about those of us that either have children that have grown up and flown the nest, or those from childless marriages.

Just an idea.

Hi LC,

I have posted about this some time ago, somewhere there is a long description of my first "holiday" on my own.

After 30+ years of going away with my ex & later including family, it was daunting to plan a break on my own. In the end I decided to incorporate doing voluntary work and sunshine. It turned out to be the best decision of my life and something I continue to do.

It is amazingly liberating to travel alone, the joy of getting on a plane and only being responsible for myself.

My choice then and remains so now, is wildlife rescue. I have been to some fantastic places, meet lots of interesting people and made friends that come from all corners of the earth.

My first project was in Africa and entailed d-fleaing,neutering and mange treatment of wild dog packs. I flew out on 22/12 which would have been my zillionth wedding anniversary, it was also going to be Tabaski ( a very important date in the religious calender that is governed by the lunar calender and was to fall on new years eve for the first time in over a 100 years).

I can honestly say that it was the best Christmas/new year I had had in a long time. The other volunteers were from many countries, all ages and great fun.

Accommodation and food is included, I had to pay for my own flights and spending money. The hours can be long but there is always time to laugh, the camaraderie, second to none. You can get places from 1 week to months, there are also many different projects to suit all interests.

I know there are dedicated companies that do singles holidays, walking, sailing, other activities but volunteering fits my bill best. I keep a diary when away and maybe one day, when I am a very old lady, will write my book (sitting in the sun, with a glass of wine) :)

Best wishes,

NWTT.

Hi LCD
I too have been wondering how to venture out on my first solo holiday,a scary prospect for me having always been part of a family/friends group.Count me in I think it would be an excellent idea if we could throw open an invitation to all those singletons who are child free(my two teenagers are making their own holiday plans) and maybe start up our own Solo holiday club . I''m feeling quite excited !!!!

Yes count me in as well , after all the family holidays I just feel like the memory''s are to much , even packing seems to be traumatic .I have been on holidays with friends but going away with another family only highlights what was.....

Hi

Sounds like a good idea to me also. These are the things you miss when you suddenly find yourself single. But, in the spirit of ''onwards and upwards'' yes, I''m interested too.

xx

Hi Jayne
Which part of the country are you from? I noted in an earlier post you were looking for ideas for new hobbies we sound very similar Did you find anything worthwhile ? I can so relate the need to be doing something worthwhile and meeting new people. I have become so intrenched in routine that it feels impossible to break free and if I''m honest much safer to hide away in my comfort zone. Hope you were brave and got out there I know it''s what I need to do x

Hi,

I''m very interested in this too, after being married for 30 yrs and now suddenly finding myself on my own, I really would like to travel, I have checked out just you etc but they really are very expensive, I also would like to volunteer but not sure who to do this with as have heard some shocking stories such as orphanages etc set up as scams to rip off people who really think they are helping a genuin cause but it''s just a sham, so I would be really interested to here about any volunteering abroad that anyone has done and which company they went with thanks. X
