What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Thanks Eliza, I was going to tag my question on to your ''wahay''! Thread but thought I''d start a new one. It was very satisfying to turn the tap on and find the water running again!

Now to think about going into the loft FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! to get the Christmas tree down. But might wait till son back in case I get stuck in there for the rest of the day!

Don''t go into the loft without somebody being in the house to assist. Accidents can occur quite easily and you don''t want to be alone at that stage.

Wait for your son to get back to foot the ladder and ensure that the ladder protrudes above the loft hatch so that you can hold onto it when you rejoin the ladder to descend.

And don''t put your foot through the ceiling - step only on the wooden beams if the loft is not boarded out. For this task, flat shoes are a must!

Yay! one step at a time - first the loft, and then THE WORLD!!

Every great journey starts with a single step…

(you may all have to remind me of this)

Well, I went into the loft. Got the Christmas tree and the decorations. And also found bags of women''s clothes that were not my own (lots of leopard skin). So I now have to come to terms with the fact that my husband liked dressing up in women''s clothing. There''s no other alternative, is there? And strangely, I''m not that bothered. We had nothing in common over the final years of our marriage and I always had a bit of an inkling he was bi/gay . . .

I am so well rid of him.

Phew, what a turn up for the books or perhaps it was just fancy dress from years ago. Whatever it is, he shows he is not worth your love/thoughts/sympathy.

Your doing great, keep it up, being alone is not the same as being lonely, you will find peace and a better life.

Big hugs,

NWTT.

Thanks NWTT - I do agree. I am lucky that I stopped loving - even liking him - years ago. I stayed for the children :( And now I have to concentrate on getting a good settlement! But hey - I know where the stopcock is and I can access the loft! Go me!
