It is a gas regulation that there should be a gap of 20mm from the work top either side of a free standing cooker because of heat transfer.

There is a mandatory gap of 20mm required on each side of a free standing cooker but there appears to be no restriction on bridging the gap at the top whilst still leaving the gap below. This was the reason I mentioned the silicone covers on a previous post.

As the silicone covers are specifically designed to bridge the gap I would have thought that these would be illegal to sell if they assisted in contravening installation requirements.
