I have tried exercise (I know I need it) - but I still wake after about 90 mins in a panic. So I suspect the answer lies in my state of mind. It is almost inconceivable to me that my brain, though sleeping and unconscious, still has the power to do this. And after all this time! It seems I can knock myself out, one way or another, but cannot keep myself knocked out.

Any advice for this specific problem (i.e. help with NOT WAKING UP AGAIN) very gratefully received.

How about trying hypnotherapy. They try and get to the bottom of what is bothering you and stopping you sleeping. You also usually learn a good relaxation technique to help you out of the panic mode. There are also good books in the library to help with mood and how to help with low mood, etc, which can all affect sleep.

I don''t sleep well either - I tried all the stuff. I find a combination of listening to relaxing meditation music and doctor prescribed phenergan tablets (antihistamine) helps to get me off but I do still wake later in the night stressing. I only take them if I''m still up at midnight worrying now. But its horrid I feel exhausted waking up before I''ve even got started on my day.
