Just wanted to refresh this as I have discovered an amazing pasta sauce recipe you can do in a slow cooker using up your stale bread
2 red peppers
100g ground almonds
400g chopped toms
2 teaspoon of either white wine vinegar red wine vinegar balsamic or red wine anything just not malt vinegar
2 slices of bread stale crusts whatever and cook on low all day then chuck in some chilli flakes if you want
It was on the girl named jack website and it is fab throw it on pasta fish potatoes whatever I just bung it all in and then leave it to cook and freeze it. I have used it on all sorts even for a pasta bake
My favorite is to just throw chicken breast and salsa into the crockpot. There was one other post that was similar but they add a taco seasoning, which I do not do. However, that is purely just because of nutritional purposes for my meal plan. This is very good to have over a bed of rice.
I got a slow cooker and used it to great effect. I recommended one to my mother who now uses one most days.
The advice I gave to her was that she should choose a slow cooker with a metal bowl that can be placed on the stove. This allows you to brown meat or reduce juices pre/post slow cooking. I have a ceramic pot which is great but if I want to brown some ingredients I have to do that in another pot which is less flexible than using one pot for everything.
Overnight porridge with pinhead/steelcut oats (not rolled) is great. I make 3 days worth in one go using water, a little salt and cinnamon. The first morning the porridge is already hot and the subsequent mornings I mix in blueberries and microwave until they burst then stir in some agave syrup.
