What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I've just discovered the this site today. What a godsend to people going through divorce. I composed a rather long introduction of my subject but then it wouldn't save which is probably for the best. See my blog of this date about being a casualty of the Legal Services Commission.

I have had to return to the traumatic times of the divorce with all the added stuff of the maladministration by the Legal Services Commission and misrepresentation by my former solicitor. It's not something I wanted to do, but I hope that I might be able help in any way for people who are/were likewise in my position where they have to have legal aid.

Well done everybody for your support. It certainly is needed. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

What sort of problems did you have? Sorry to hear that you feel it is all so hopeless, but I am hoping that perhaps enough people might see away around that light being turned off. Good luck
