What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi, feeling very scared!

I found out my wife of 15yrs was having an affair last weekend. We have 2 kids, 8 and 12.
She now tells me that she doesn't love me anymore and wants a divorce - she says she has felt like this for at least 5 years.

I'm devastated and feeling a huge sense of loss. I can't sleep.

I've spent days thinking about the past and would feel much better if I can see may way forward into the future.

Can anyone help as I need to feel I have some future to get through the present.

Thanks.

The Divorce Calculator seems to scare a lot of people! Its best if you make an appointment and see a solicitor - many seem to do a free half hour to begin with. Then you'll have a better idea of how to proceed. Its not in anyone's interests for you to be destitute.

Lots of people on here will be able to give you good advice, help and encouragement, so keep posting.

it's difficult to comment on the figures without the detail. If you don't want to put them on the forum you could send me a PM and I will take a look.
