What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

You are up late surfing the internet and you find something like this.

'Donsybee' is my ex wife's nickname. She didn't bother to tell me that the divorce had come through, so apparently we've been officially divorced for nearly a month.

Oh well, that appears to be a forum for stoners, and she written a few messages about how she's smoking weed (something her new boyfriend Andy got her into). Hope she's happy. Or not. ;)

Toxie - maybe she thought the grass was greener on the other side of the fence

How can someone who was so intimate with another think do little of their former partner's feelings? Best rid Toxie! - find someone who really cares. Best of luck - nice to see you pop up again!

Yeah, thanks guys. I know I'm well rid and the last few weeks since I've gotten away from her have been lovely and peaceful and, in the main, stress free. I just thought it was a bit of a crappy way to find out what had happened, it's original if nothing else.

And her excuse?

She thought my post had been redirected, even though my copy had been sent to her mother's along with hers. And rather than try and be amicable about things, she immediately went on the 'well our split was mostly your fault anyway' offensive, even though she's the one who had the affair!

Well, I'm a free man now, so happier times ahead :)

And mike, your 'grass' comment has made my day :laugh:

Congratulations Toxidogg,

I have to say the grass is green comment has made my day. Couldn't be more apt. I'm trying to thing of another witty skunk based comment, but am useless at that sort of thing.

No worries Milhouse, the whole situation is absurd enough as it is, I don't think I've ever heard of this happening to anyone else.

Her mum and dad have now also had some harsh words with her regarding an email they received containing a link that goes straight to one of her posts on that site admitting that she's been smoking the stuff on and off since she was 16....well, I didn't know about it either and I didn't want them to be the last to find out about everything the way I did.

Indeed, lady Karma is a bitch.... ;):laugh:

Well, I think I can draw a line under this whole thing now, she's finally forwarded me my copy of the Decree Absolute, we've called a 'cease fire' on all the bitching about each other that we've done so far and agreed that it's best that we don't keep in touch, though I never wanted to anyway.

Seems almost a shame though, I was half tempted to call The Jeremy Kyle Show as well....
