What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am so glad I found this site. Everyone on here is so selfless and caring and yet it is all to people that they do''t even know.

It is just me or do others think that it would be nice to meet up?

I know there are events but they seem very rare which is such a shame.

I looked at the divorce support website yesterday (can''t remember what it was called but it''s one of the adverts on the home page) and it sounded great but cost a fair bit of money which a lot of us are simply to afraid to commit to or else just don''t have. I was also pointed toward a similar thing by my G.P but again it cost a fortune.

Given we are all so supportive of each other it just seems a shame that we can''t find a way to meet more often. I have great friends but they are still all in couples doing things that couples do and this would be a great way to meet new people who would hopefully become friends - especially given that we all share the same awful experiences.

Thankyou to everyone just for being you.

It''s nice when you''re feeling low to know that there are genuinely good people out there

Hi yellowrose

I think that when we can empathise, it naturally brings compassion which, in turn, brings care. We don''t have to know one another in order to be able to care. We each know what the others are going through.

I thought the same when I first joined so I organised fairly regular meets in Manchester. I don''t go to them so often any more since my life has taken a different turn - but it''s a good idea. Why not have a go at organising something informal in your area and see how much interest there is? We used to meet for dinner (optional) and go on to a bar/pub. Some would join later for a drink. Others have arranged things for afternoons which can include kids to avoid having to get a sitter.

Summer''s coming, it would be nice to have a few parties / days out etc.

Hi YR,

I think its a very good idea, perhaps we need to think about areas of the country so that we can make it accessible with-out the expense of travelling long distances. Living in the far north of England makes meetings in the south impossible and visa versa :(x
