What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I've been divorced for 7 years and now happily remarried. I am approaching retirement which will result in a substantial drop in my income and my ability to pay my agreed maintenance. In trying to formulate a reasonable offer to my litigious ex-wife what are the key factors to take into account? Can I gear the offer by reference to the level of pension she might have earned if she had continued her career as a PA or am I obliged to make the offer by reference to my significantly higher fund following a career as a senior corporate executive? Can I exclude post-divorce pension growth if it is the latter?
