What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Mike, to answer your question, she's not on legal aid. We've not yet resorted to solicitor's letters but consulting her solicitor is difficult - she's 250 miles away. In my view, my wife is taking this tack through a combination of natural selfishness, dislike of non-gay men and sheer spite. Everyone I talk to thinks she's bonkers (what they'd say to her I don't know) as her claims are so outrageous.
I despair for our children, but at least I'm in the home with them now. She's made the usual threats to get me out, but I'm staying on come what may.
Thanks for the help.
