What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Thanks to you both - very interesting. Am I correct in thinking that a Consent Order is only enforceable for 12 months?

I am currently waiting for my ex2b to provide his solicitor with his last years trading accounts so that she can deem what she feels to be fair???!!!! I'm just really frustrated as this is all a complete life choice for him including the supposed drop in earnings from his previous salaried job. However, my commitment to our child simply does not afford me these sorts of choices. And yes, I know I have my child and I wouldn't change that for the world but as a father he does have a commitment I believe to pay a fair proportion of the costs for the upbringing!

I'm also really disappointed that we have managed for over three years to handle everything amicably and now all of a sudden I am starting to feel really bitter!
