What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you need help sorting out a fair financial settlement?

No, madam, what you WILL need is the title number , if you have it. You may not, of course, but it's quite straightforward to get it, you can do it on line and the fee is about £2 or something like that. I've done it a few times myself. I wouldn't have thought you'd have too much trouble, given your situation. What I think you need to do is to find a solicitor who will do legal aid. Sounds like you will probably qualify for it. OK it is only a loan but you can defer repayment for quite some time if you have kids.

Like Sera, I do need to stress that speed is of the essence.
