What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Going through mediation. I want a 50/50 split. There is enough equity in the house for both of us to purchase a house each and have a smallish mortgage. We have 2 kids - son aged 16 and daughter aged 14. My wife is expecting the kids to live with her and so wants more than 50/50. My daughter wants to live with me and is willing to come to mediation to say so. Should this make it a pretty definite 50/50 split? (I earn slightly more than she does). Unfortunately I signed the care of children declaration which is now with the courts which stated that wife would look after both kids. Can I now contest this? Thanks..
