What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I bought property in joint ownership with my brother before marriage. The property was on rent for a year before I got married abraod. My partner joined me in UK and we started living in the property. We had a child born in the house.

We been married for 10 years and recently my brother gifted me his share of the property as well.

Can my partner claim anything in the property saying it's a matrimonial property. Currently I am the sole owner and mortgage is under my name. My partner never paid any Bill's or propety expenses throughout the marriage

It is a marital asset and considered fully for the purposes of divorce. The fact that you have a child is very important, housing the child (ren) is the first priority in dividing assets.
