What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello everyone,

I have just applied for Decree Nisi and sent a financial settlement proposal to my ex for consideration. I was advised the court would advise a date for decree nisi to be granted in 3 months. Hopefully we can agree the finances and get a Consent Order - I know the court can only approve the consent order after Decree Nisi is granted.

If we cannot agree on the finances, can I initiate mediation then make an application for a financial order before the Decree Nisi is granted?

Lots of time has been wasted so far and I want to avoid further delays.

Thanks very much if you can advise on my question.
