What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Thanks Rickoshea

I will be contacting the barrister who dealt with the child arrangements and got me exactly what i wanted. I'll pay for the advice as it sounds like i am being taken for a ride and the savings will be worth it.

I dont think i should pay spouse maintenance after the house is sold as she should (in 5 years time) be self sufficient be then! She needs to go and get a proper job. After the house is sold i should only have to pay child maintenance at whatever the CMS calculate it to be. That is far fairer than a global order.

Fingers crossed my barrister has some smart ideas. I haven't signed anything yet so i can still object to this draft.

Thanks again
