What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi All,
As above will hapeen in a few weeks after 1st meeting alone today via zoom,
I live in martial home with the daughter 4 days a week alone, i work 25 hours and Claim U/C
Ex Lives 20 miles away with a partner.
it 60/40 to me on a weekly basis
I pay for childcare and deal with daughter everyday things like doc, dentist etc etc
So were happy to go 50/50 on everything. But i was advise to get advice before 1st negotiation meeting. I feel they were telling i should.
So have a 1 hour slot next week to speak to a solictor just to find out, i will be charge for this. So want to have Question ready, but i don't know what to ask.
Child arrangement is ok were both happy..
Ex work full time, ex salary is more than 50% than mine, i really not intrested in Ex assit or money.
So any idea to what questions i need to asked as i don't know what to asked. I don't even undertstand why we can't take what ours and that it. But it seems the court we see it unfair on me.

Where a child is involved their housing needs are a priority. Settlement on divorce is final and ideally financial ties between the parties should be severed with each having enough assets to rehouse independently and pay bills now and in the future.

If that can be achieved on a 50:50 split then that's a likely outcome. If it cannot be then other options need to be explored. That may be an unequal split of equity or an arrangement that defers payment of a share of equity.
